Meeting on 18th January 2016 "Imagination"

The Little Hereford Art Group met on Monday 18th January to practice using imagination. The first exercise entailed creating a Christmas based image in 5 minutes. Then the paper was passed to the person on the left and using their imagination that person, taking 5 minutes, had use their imagination and skill, to add to that composition. The sheets were circulated around 9 people each time only 5 minutes was allowed to add to the composition. The results were quite amazing, and proved that given a canvass we have never seen before it is possible to imaginatively contribute to it. All agreed it was great fun.

The next exercise used for it’s inspiration a children's book by author and illustrator Jackie Morris on dragons. Her beautiful paintings were not seen by the group members but they had the verbal descriptions of each of the 11 dragons depicted and could choose one to illustrate. I think that, living here on the Welsh borders, dragons are particularly appropriate and some excellent designs were created. Afterwards we looked at the book and compared our creations. I particularly liked some of the small touches that were included by LHAG members, such as the dragon that was “as big as a village” having houses as it’s scales, and fish in it’s tail which was “as big as a river”; and the ice dragon, making snowballs! All were excellent and I have included a few of them here.

Don’t forget everyone is welcome to come along to Little Hereford Village Hall on the 3rd Monday of the month at 10.30. A nominal 3.00 provides biscuits and as much coffee and tea as you want, plus a great morning with very friendly “arty” people. Sometimes the subjects are serious, sometimes “off the wall” but it is always good fun.
